Less than 24 hours after Texas Gov. Rick Perry absolutely killed it in the GOP's pre-season scrimmage, President Obama took to the field and threw down the gauntlet.
He challenged both sides to race to the top, rather than the bottom, and offered up a strong defense of the role of government and unions.
And though the president's game plan was lauded by both pundits and economists alike, not everyone was receptive to it.
Even before the kickoff, Sen. David Vitter complained of feeling like Charlie Brown; and Rep. Michele Bachmann sounded like a sad clown when she gave her post-game analysis.
