Feeling Rick Perry's heat, Mitt Romney 'evolves' on climate change

Mitt Romney in June:
I believe the world is getting warmer, and I believe that humans have contributed to that. [...] And so I think it's important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may well be significant contributors to the climate change and global warming that you're seeing.

Mitt Romney yesterday:

"Do I think the world's getting hotter? Yeah, I don't know that but I think that it is," he said. "I don't know if it's mostly caused by humans."

"What I'm not willing to do is spend trillions of dollars on something I don't know the answer to."

To be fair to Romney, he was being a bit of a weasel in June because he disavowed any sort of policy that would put a price on carbon. Still, by acknowledging that global warming exists, that humans are contributing to it, and that we need to reduce carbon pollution, Romney took a position that infuriated the right. In Rush Limbaugh's words, Romney had just said "bye bye" to the nomination. Nonetheless, despite the anger from the right, Romneyland was unapologetic:

?The fact that he doesn?t change his position .?.?. that?s the upside for us,? said one Romney adviser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on behalf of the campaign. ?He?s not going to change his mind on these issues to put his finger in the wind for what scores points with these parts of the party.?

But that was in June. Now it's August, and not only have two whole months come and gone, but Rick Perry is in the race and is the new front-runner. And Rick Perry doesn't believe global warming is real, and he certainly doesn't believe we need to do anything about it. So now, instead of standing his ground, Mitt Romney says he doesn't know whether humans contribute to global warming, and that he certainly doesn't think we need to do anything major to reduce carbon pollution. In other words, he just stuck his finger in the wind.
