President Obama delivers statement on Hurricane Irene

President Obama is scheduled to make a statement about Hurricane Irene at 11:30AM Eastern time. The White House will be broadcasting a live audio feed of his statement. We'll post live updates as well as a live embed code if one becomes available.

8:30 AM PT: President Obama is speaking now, slightly ahead of schedule. "If you are in the projected path of this hurricane you must take precautions."

8:31 AM PT: President Obama tells people to check out http://ready.gov or http://listo.gov for guidelines on how to get prepared. He says that FEMA and local authorities are getting prepositioned to take action after the storm passes.

8:32 AM PT: "All indications are that this will be a historic hurricane...now is the time for residents of (affected) communities" to get prepare.

8:35 AM PT: President Obama's remarks are over. I missed the beginning, but the basic message was that the Federal government is working with local authorities to prepare for the storm by getting prepositioned, but that until the storm is passed, rescue activities won't be able to begin, so it's urgent that people follow preparedness guidelines issued by local authorities. The better prepared people are, the less impact the storm will have.

8:38 AM PT: Here's FEMA's Hurricane preparedness page.

8:40 AM PT: NOAA's realtime information on Irene is here.

9:07 AM PT: Update: Full statement below the fold.
